NHIS
Department Overview
The NHIS was established by decree act of 1999 and commence operation in the year 2005. NHIS department is situated near A&E complex, it has two story building painted in light & dark green, with a reception premises at the entrance, the reception serves as a waiting area of patients as well as immunization Centre for infants.
The department has seven (7) consultation rooms and single doctor’s lodge with Ten (10) sections as indicated below.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Unit of the Hospital was designed to provide Health Care to enrollees of the scheme particularly the enrollees that the Hospital is their primary provider in strict compliance with policy provision of NHIA act. These includes in-patients and out-patients, on referrals from other facilities under the scheme.
The scheme of the Hospital currently has total number of Seven Thousand and Eighty-Eight (7088) enrollees respectfully.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Unit Functions
To ensure all NHIA enrollee are given the best care
Registration of new enrollees and their families to the scheme which include the enrollee, he/her spouses and four (4) biological children below the age of eighteen (18) years through the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
Sourcing authorization code for a client that requires secondary tertiary level of care by means of referral letter.
To receive and prepare patient or his dependent referral for both primary and secondary cares services.
Processing clearance of non-indebtedness of HMO’s
In constant liaising with the HMO’s and NHIA state office.
Processing MOU with all interested/proposed partners in the health care provision/services.
Where deemed expedient, organizing and rendering sensitization education Programme to existing and targeted enrollees.
Assisting and making recommendation to management in arrears and appropriate for an improved service delivery.
Ensuring that services are in strict compliance with the provisions of the NHIA operational guidelines.

SERVICES RENDERED:
Medical consultation and medication to enrollees rendering
Obstetrics and Gynecology services
Provision of nursing care/midwifery
Dispensing of drugs infections e.t.c at pharmacy unit
Keeping of proper health records of enrollees
Presenting accurate account details of income generated from different HMO’s for both capitated and fee for services care within NHIS complex
Provision of excellent ECG services
Sourcing of authorization codes to enrollees for in-patients, and those out-patients on referral cases from other facilities.
The department also source Authorization Code for (out of station) enrollees, it also has an office called (Claims office) The claims office rendered services of claiming the money for services rendered to enrollees. All patients’ bills are submitted to respective HMO with attached letter headed indicating the total amount Fee For-Services claims HMOs are expected to pay through the Hospital TSA Account.
Submission of claims are made in two formats. It is submitted automatically or manually.
