The History of Transport Department

The above named department came into being in April, 1980 after the Orthopaedic Hospital Management Board took over the management of the hospital from the Institute of Health, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.  And is one of the departments in the hospital that is saddled with responsibilities of all official mobilities of the hospital vehicles within and outside the hospital on demand and approval for smooth and proper operation(s).

The Transport Department was headed by the following HOD

1.        Mr. Amos Habibu             –         from April, 1980 to October, 2001

2.        Mr. Abdulraheem Babatunde (Ag. HOD)- from October 2001 to Nov. 2002

3.        Engr. Shehu Shuaibu Ottan –     from Nov, 2002 to September, 2014

4.        Tgst Tafida Muhktar         –         from September, 2014 to date.

The Statutory Functions of Transport Department

A part from the above, the Transport Department also served the following functions:

a.       Twenty-four (24) hours ambulance services

b.       Provision of vehicles to other department to carry out their routine functions on daily basis including official’s tours when necessary

c.       Provision of logistics during Board Management meeting and conveyance of other guest of the Hospital

d.       Provision of utility vehicle for the purchase of food items (perishable) to Catering Department.

e.       Evacuation of wastes from soak away with septic tank within the Hospital various premises

f.        Serving ambulance hiring services and septic truck hiring for staff and others

Based on the above, the department has twenty-seven (27) different make/type of vehicles which include ambulances, Saloon cars and trucks among others

Head of Transport Department Profile

The Head of Transport Department is Tafida Mukhtar, born on 11^th August, 1969, in Danbatta town of Danbatta LGA, Kano State.  He bags a Bachelor of Technology in Industrial and Technology Education with Automobile Technology as his option from Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State.  He had certificate in computer from Sasil Net, and also a certificate in Transport and Logistics from National Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria.  He is a corporate member of Nigerian Association of Technology in Engineering (NATE).  Before coming to NOH Dala – Kano.  He worked with Triumph Nigerian Ltd in Bompai, Kano, later worked with Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board and also Federal College of Education (Technical) Bichi after which he joined the service of National Orthopaedic Hospital Dala – Kano in January, 2009.
