ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Public Health
The public health department of this hospital is as old as this hospital, that is since December, 1959 when the hospital was opened by sir, Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto. The department was under the leadership of consultant surgeon who had knowledge of public health at master level. Then it was headed by public health Assistant Mr. Lucas. The department was later headed by Mrs. Ochoha public health Superintendent. In 1992 Malan Sani Usman was employed to head the department after Mrs. Ochoha left. In 2008 Malam Musa Idris was also employed to be head of department with Malam Sani Usman as the Deputy up to 2017 later Malam Musa Idris were redeployed to Post Basic Nursing School as tutor then Malam Ibrahim Abdul-Aziz from Administration department were posted to oversee the department after which also Malam Sani Usman was taking over as head of Department up to date.
The functions and objectives of this department are as follows:
Disease prevention and control: that to prevent the spread of infectious disease in the hospital and the community.
Health education and promotion: to educate the patients, staff, and the community.
Waste management: that is evacuation of waste generated in the hospital to final disposal site including Amputative body part from theater.
Sweeping and cleaning of hospital environment which include sweeping of hospital surrounding, corridors, and curb webs removal.
Vector control and spray against mosquito and pest
Incineration of medical waste especially sharp waste to render it nonhazardous.
Routine inspection of hospital’s premises including food premises and food handlers to prevent the spread of infection.
Horticulture and landscaping of the hospital premises for the provision of beautification and conducive environment for both patients and staff.

The department has a total number of seventy (70) staff including head of department, supervisors and sub staff (Health Attendant)
